I chose the 2010 movie Frozen as my Halloween movie. I love Halloween and the dark, macabre themes that come with it. I was hoping the novel Iβm writing would have been released in time for Halloween, but it is what it is.
Spoiler alert
The movie is a survival story, andβspoiler alertβthe person who survives is actually the least fit and least skilled for a harsh, snowy environment. She was the least likely to make it, which shows that even if the odds are against you, survival is possible. Yet, “winning” doesnβt feel like a win; a huge price was paid with loss and grief.
Both of the more fit men died. Fate orchestrated events so that the woman would ultimately survive. The first man had to die to feed the wolves. But when the wolves grew hungry again, they went after the second fit man. His efforts to save himself and the woman led him to unhinge the chairlift, and later, he became the wolves’ prey, feeding their hunger so that, when they encountered the woman, they didn’t attack her. Thanks to his efforts, the chairlift became loose enough for her to reach the ground, relatively unharmed.
It’s a short movie that would appeal to fans of body horror. Itβs not a typical horror filmβmore a survival thrillerβbut I liked it, even though itβs haunting me now!
