I get a lot of inspiration from my daily walks. My eyes always catch certain sites when I’m walking, and so I stop and take a picture—it can be part of a building, a poster, or something in a display window. At some point last September, I said to myself, “Let’s look at these photos and see what I can come up with in terms of fiction.” I actually started some short stories inspired by these pictures, but the stories aren’t descriptive of the photos. They don’t even sometimes belong to the time or place that the picture represents; it’s just a starting point, a seed that I let grow intuitively and organically.
So far I have five finished stories and one more which turned into a novel. I was writing chapter 20 of the novel this morning—I’m proud of it! It’s taking a lot of world building, and it’s a type of writing that is a little bit new to me. Most of my writings are basically speculative science fiction with some type of literary flair, but this one is totally new and I just love it.
